Co-Chairs’ Corner

We are closing to books on an eventful 2023 and looking forward to a busy 2024. Between the travails of FTX and the numerous lesser frauds, the expertise of our members is in constant demand. This coming year, we plan to host webinars and committee video calls, which will resemble webinars but will be interactive. The plan for the video calls is to have short presentations on topics of interest (10 minutes maximum), followed by a group discussion. Some of our favorite classes this year were seminars rather than lectures. We hope that the video calls will be opportunities for all of us to learn from each other. Mainly, though, we want to hear from you.

We had an exciting panel for WLC this year. Warren Darakananda (Brattle Group), Rachel Jaffe Mauceri (Robinson & Cole, LLP) and Kathy Bazoian Phelps (Raines Feldman Littrell LLP) presented “Fraud, Frenzy and the Future: Unmasking Deceit in Complex Bankruptcy Cases.” Our highly qualified panelists explored recent trends in commercial fraud and the resulting bankruptcies, examined the role of technology in those cases, and considered how these cases will evolve in the future.

Get Involved!

We invite our committee members to get involved and contribute to our success. To that end, we encourage you to write articles for our newsletters. Please contact Alyson Fiedler at alyson.fiedler@icemiller.com for more information.

We also will be planning webinars in 2024. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in a webinar by contacting Aaron Kaufman for more information at akaufman@grayreed.com.

Committee members can provide written analysis and commentary for our members via the listserv. We encourage our members to post updates regarding new cases and other issues to the listserv as well. Please contact Michael Napoli at michael.napoli@akerman.com for more information if you have an update or commentary to post.

We also are looking for volunteers for leadership positions. We can certainly use someone willing to take over communications duties.
