Co-Chairs Corner

We hope this newsletter finds you enjoying the lazy days of summer and maybe even getting to do some international traveling. Keep reading to hear all the amazing things the International Committee has been up to.

Welcome to Our New Committee Members

The International Committee continues to grow, and we’d like to extend a particular welcome to our newest members. You can read a bit about some of our newest members in the “New Member Spotlight” section of the newsletter. Our new members perfectly highlight the international reach of this committee.

June Meet and Greet

On June 21, we had our first virtual meet-and-greet, during which we were able to meet members of the International Committee from all over the world. Be on the lookout for information on future meet-and-greets, which are great opportunities to chat with other members and learn about the international issues that have members talking.

INSOL Happy Hour

The International Committee hosted an in-person get-together during the INSOL conference in London on June 27. This newsletter lists the event’s sponsors and features a photo from the event. We will host additional informal get-togethers at major international conferences in the future.

ABI International Matter of the Year Award

If you have been too busy working on your latest significant international engagement to attend any of our recent events, don’t worry; we have you covered, too. We are very excited to announce the launch of our new ABI International Committee Matter of the Year Award. See the article on the award in this newsletter for additional details.

We will be announcing the winner of the inaugural award at the Cross-Border Insolvency Program, being held on November 14, 2022, at the New York offices of Blank Rome. In addition to the award announcement, we will have a full day of great panels on trending international topics.

Upcoming Events

We encourage our members to attend the International Insolvency & Restructuring Symposium in London October 13-14. Later in the year, the International Committee will be teaming up with the Asset Sales Committee to put on a panel at the Winter Leadership Conference in La Quinta, Calif., December 8-10 concerning asset recovery in foreign jurisdictions.

Articles

Thankfully, you don’t have to wait until these conferences for intriguing international content because we also have some great substantive articles this issue, including:

  • "Recognition and Assistance of Foreign Insolvency Officeholders in the British Virgin Islands" – by Shane Donovan and Jennifer Jenkins, Mourant
  • "Indian Cross-Border Insolvencies: Beyond the Horizon" – by Mariam Zaidi, Piramal Capital & Housing Finance Limited
  • "Introduction of a New Restructuring Regime in the Cayman Islands" – by Adam Crane and Nicosia Lawson, Baker & Partners

Keep up with international content between newsletters by visiting ABI’s Global Insolvency webpage (https://globalinsolvency.com), where you can find the latest news on issues pertaining to global insolvency and search for resources on a country-by-country basis.

If you are interested in contributing to future newsletters or to the International Committee in any way, please reach out to Adam Crane and Evan Zucker, our Newsletter Co-Editors. Their contact information can be found on the International Committee’s website, abi.org/membership/committees/international. All newsletters and past webinars are also accessible on the website.

Happy reading!
Evelyn and Kyle
