The honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony to be held on Dec. 10 at ABI’s 2021 Winter Leadership Conference at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
Furr is a shareholder in Baker Donelson’s Atlanta office, where she represents secured and unsecured creditors in a variety of matters, including chapter 11, chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy cases, involuntary petitions, § 363 asset sale issues, cash-collateral issues, lien-priority and avoidance actions, preference actions, rejection/assumption of executory contracts, stay-relief actions, asset-recovery and disposition, contested confirmation hearings, adversary proceedings and bankruptcy appeals to district court. Furr received her J.D. with honors in 2008 from Emory University School of Law and her B.S. magna cum laude in 2005 from Clemson University.
Furr serves as the firm’s Atlanta Office Women’s Initiative liaison and formerly co-chaired the firm’s Parental Leave Committee. In addition to her bankruptcy and commercial litigation practice, she partners with Cobb County Legal Aid to offer pro bono assistance to domestic violence victims and the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation to assist pro bono low-income clients collecting on judgments through the “Dollars for Judgments” program. For her work, in 2018 she received the Cobb County Legal Aid Pro Bono Star Award.
“The 2021 honorees are a testament to the future of the insolvency profession, with exemplary accomplishments in both their careers and communities,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “We look forward to this diverse collection of young leaders propelling ABI's full range of activities forward to advance the profession.”
The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted earlier this year by the candidates themselves or by colleagues via the initiative’s website, http://abi40under40.org. More than 200 candidates, each with outstanding records of professional achievement and community leadership, were evaluated by 20 judges. The majority of the applicants were partners, directors or managing directors at their firms.
