2020 Secured Credit Co-Chair Corner: Year in Review

This year has been like no other. With the rest of the world, ABI’s Secured Credit Committee was jilted by the speed at which our in-person conferences and activities came to a halt. At the same time, we marveled at how efficiently the Annual Spring Meeting was retooled for virtual happy hours, networking opportunities and webinars that have lasted through these trying months. Alas, our ASM panel prepared with the Claims Trading Committee, “Claims Traders: Sharks or Saints?,” was lost in the process, but in the early days of the pandemic, who knew what would come?

At the recent Winter Leadership Conference, in conjunction with the Emerging Industries and Technology Committee, we presented “Navigating Distressed Investing, Sales and Technology: Protecting Your Sale Process, Your Investments and Your Hide,” which explored and navigated distressed-investing issues relating to sales of technology and IP under § 363, and buyer identification in a virtual landscape. We are already turning our sights and hope toward the 2021 Annual Spring Meeting and connecting with you all again soon.

Committee membership is up, and we continue to welcome new members every week. Over the course of the coming year, we will continue to identify ways for our committee members to get involved. Please consider submitting an article for our committee’s quarterly newsletter to make your presence known. If interested, please contact our Newsletter Editor, Andrea Chase, with your ideas and submissions. We also invite you to share with us any other questions or thoughts that you may have regarding the Secured Credit Committee or ABI in general.

We look forward to meeting and working with more of you in the future.
