Alexandra R. Schnapp of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia Selected as One of ABI’s 2019 “40 Under 40”

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Alexandra R. Schnapp of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia (Atlanta) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during ABI’s 2019 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 5-7 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Schnapp is law clerk to Hon. Wendy Hagenau, Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia. From 2011-2018, she clerked for Hon. C. Ray Mullins. She regularly encounters a wide array of consumer and business bankruptcy matters, including issues related to claim objections, § 363 asset sales, plan confirmation, dismissal and conversion, and all aspects of adversary proceedings. Schnapp earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law and her B.A. cum laude from Middlebury College. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a litigation legal assistant at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York. While in law school, she served as the executive administrative editor of the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal, which published her student comment, “COMI Strikes a Discordant Note,” in Volume 27, Issue 1.

Schnapp is an active ABI member and co-chairs its Ethics and Professional Compensation Committee, as serving as the committee’s Membership Relations Director and Newsletter Editor. She remains a frequent contributor to the committee’s newsletter and ABI VOLO circuit court case summaries. Schnapp is on the board of directors for the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and serves as its director of communications after serving as newsletter director (2017-2018). She has served on the board of directors for the IWIRC Georgia Network since 2013 as programming co-chair (2013-2014), network co-chair (2015-2016) and director at large (2017-present). Schnapp also chairs the Bench and Bar Committee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia, is a member-at-large on the Atlanta Bar Association's Bankruptcy Section Board of Directors, is co-coordinator for the Atlanta Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) program, and is an adviser for the Emory University Bankruptcy Developments Journal Notes and Comments Advisory Committee. She is also on the board of directors for Everybody Wins! Atlanta, an organization devoted to improving the reading skills and nurturing a love of reading in students reading below grade level.

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 350 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
