Alexandria, Va.— ABI announces that Dalié Jiménez of University of California, Irvine School of Law (Irvine, Calif.) has been selected for ABI’s “40 Under 40,” recognizing 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. This year’s awardees will be formally recognized at ABI’s 2018 Winter Leadership Conference, taking place Dec. 6-8 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Jiménez is a professor of law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where she teaches bankruptcy, contracts and consumer-protection courses. She is one of three principal investigators in the Financial Distress Research Project, a large-scale, longitudinal, randomized control trial evaluating the effectiveness of legal and counseling interventions to help individuals in financial distress. The project has received generous financial support from NSF, ABI, NCBJ and the Arnold Foundation, among others.
Jiménez spent a year as part of the founding staff of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, working on debt-collection, debt-relief, credit-reporting and student loan issues. Prior to her academic career, she clerked for Hon. Juan R. Torruella of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, was a litigation associate at Ropes & Gray in Boston, and worked on consumer-protection issues for a Massachusetts state senator.
A cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, Jiménez holds dual B.S. degrees in electrical engineering/computer science and political science from MIT. As a Cuban immigrant who spent most of her adult life on the East Coast, she is enjoying her recent move to California. She lives in Irvine with her husband, toddler and two cats.
“The 2018 ABI ‘40 Under 40’ Class is already advancing the bankruptcy profession forward,” said ABI Executive Director Samuel J. Gerdano. “Each of these remarkable young men and women are attaining achievements not just in their professional careers, but also as leaders in their communities.”
The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted via the initiative’s website, through which professionals nominated themselves or a colleague. Membership in ABI was not required, and more than 200 candidates were evaluated. Those selected were chosen from both large and small firms from every region of the country, and represent diverse practice areas such as law, finance, accounting, consulting, academia, government and more.
