During 2016, the Asset Sales Committee leadership has strived to provide committee members with access to helpful content and the opportunity to engage in discussions on relevant issues.
Conference Programs:
At the 2016 Annual Spring Meeting, the Asset Sales Committee partnered with the Labor & Employment committee to present a program entitled “Labor Issues in 363 Sales: Things You Need to Know,” where the Jevic decision was the main topic.
At the 2016 Winter Leadership Conference, organized by committee Education Director Peter Barret, the committee partnered with the Unsecured Trade Creditors Committee to present a program entitled “Disruptive Engagement: The Role of Creditors’ Committees and Individual Creditors in Asset Sales”.
For the 2017 Annual Spring Meeting, Peter Barre has organized the committee’s partnership with the Health Care Committee to present a program on issues arising in the bankruptcy sales of assets in the health care industry.
Webinars:
During 2016, the Asset Sales Committee hosted two webinars. On Aug. 18, 2016, the committee hosted a webinar on the Jevic decision with key professionals from the case. It was moderated by Leyza Blanco of Gray Robinson in Miami, committee’s Special Projects Coordinator. On Oct. 19, 2016, the committee hosted a webinar on the Second Circuit’s decision in the GM case and its impact on successor-liability issues. The recordings of each webinar are available for free on ABI’s website on the committee’s web page, www.abi.org/membership/committees/asset-sales.
Newsletters:
The committee also published three newsletters, one each in May, June and September 2016, that featured a total of eight articles on topics involving asset sales. The newsletters are available on the committee’s web page. The committee is always looking for articles and authors. If you are interested in drafting an article for the newsletter, please contact Newsletter Editor Dawn Cica at dcica@BlackLoBello.law.
Other Outreach:
In March 2016, the committee hosted two conference calls: one on the GM decision involving successor liability that was on appeal, and the other entitled “Gifting in 363 Sales and Plans.” The recordings of each call are available for free on ABI’s website on the committee’s webpage.
In addition, each month, Communications Manager Janice Alwin, with Oak Point Partners in Chicago, sends a topic for discussion to the committee members through the listserve emails. It is hoped that this will spur discussions among the members and highlight areas of interest.
Finally, Member Relations Director Paul Possinger, with Proskauer in Chicago, has been working with the leadership team to reach out to committee members and prospective members through new avenues. The committee is experimenting with different platforms, such as LinkedIn and Facebook, in order to provide useful, but not annoying, content for our members.
Please feel free to provide your feedback to anyone on your leadership team.
