Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) announces that Chief Bankruptcy Judge Daniel P. Collins (D. Ariz.; Phoenix) has been elected to ABI’s Board of Directors. An ABI member since 1998, Judge Collins has been a frequent speaker at ABI events and was a member of ABI’s Civility Task Force, which recently released its Report on Standards of Professional Courtesy and Conduct. He will serve a term of three years on the 60-member ABI Board of Directors.
Judge Collins was appointed to the bench in 2013 and was elevated to Chief Judge in 2014. Prior to joining the bench, he was a founding partner of Collins, May, Potenza, Baran & Gillespie, and prior to that he was a partner at Leonard, Collins & Kelly. His practice dealt primarily in commercial bankruptcy, representing creditors, trustees and chapter 11 debtors. Judge Collins graduated from the University of Arizona in 1980 with a B.S. in business administration and received his J.D. from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona in 1983.
