As we close 2015 with more hospital bankruptcies being filed around the country, the ABI Health Care Committee is expecting an interesting year ahead in 2016.
The Health Care Committee co-sponsored well-received panels in 2015 at both the Annual Spring Meeting and the Winter Leadership Conference. At the 2015 Annual Spring Meeting, in collaboration with the Labor and Employment Committee, the Health Care Committee presented: Hemorrhaging Hospitals: Labor Issues in the Health Care Insolvency E.R. with panelists Scott B. Davis, David M. Fusco, Sharon L. Levine and Nancy A. Peterman. At the 2015 Winter Leadership Conference, in collaboration with the Commercial Fraud Committee, the Health Care Committee presented Lies Lies Lies Yeah: Can a Health Care Business Reorganize When Facing Allegations of Fraud? The Role of the Forensic Accountant, Counsel and the Community with panelists Carol Fox, Jim Porter, Andrew Troop and Warren Martin.
One of the Health Care Committee’s initiatives for 2016 will be a webinar jointly sponsored with the Secured Creditor Committee covering the topic of Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) insolvencies. Our panelists will be Tom Califano, Chad Shandler and Brett Mehlman. Look out for your invitation to join!
Our Newsletters helped members stay current, led by such articles as Gaining a Clear View of IT Security in a Health Care Organization by David Reitzel and David A. Rock and Vertical Integration May Be the Best Option For Some Troubled Health Care Providers by Scott Davis and Johnny Lee.
Our brightest spot in 2015, however, has been our our blogger, Mary Lane, who over the last few years has resurrected our blog and made it thrive. Thanks, Mary!
Stay tuned for information about a social event at the 2016 Annual Spring Meeting to bring the Committee together for networking opportunities.
Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2016!
