This year has been an exciting one for the Secured Credit Committee (SCC). For those of you interested in learning more about SCC activities, and hopefully becoming more involved, this message summarizes some of the highlights of the SCC in 2015, the SCC's goals for 2016, and areas in which you might want to become involved.
Most recently, the SCC co-sponsored a joint educational session at ABI’s 2015 Winter Leadership Conference (WLC) with the International Committee entitled “Collateral Protection and Competing Priorities: Secured Credit in the International Arena.” If you are interested in assisting with educational programs, please contact Education Director Eric Anderson (Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs LLP; Atlanta), who is already working on a terrific program for the 2016 Annual Spring Meeting (ASM). Our committee will be joining the Financial Advisor and Investment Banking Committee at the next ASM for a joint educational session entitled “Legal and Practical Issues Involving Secured Creditors and the Retention of Financial Advisors.” The conference will be held April 14-17, 2016, at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C.
If membership outreach is your interest, please contact Membership Coordinator Eli Vonnegut.
Another easy way to become involved is to write an article for the SCC's online newsletter, which is published quarterly. Committee Newsletter Editor George Klidonas is always looking for articles. Past newsletter articles are available on the committee’s website.
The listserve is another terrific tool offered by ABI. If you have an announcement or would like to pick the brains of other committee members, then the listserve may be just the tool for you. For more information, please contact Listserve Facilitator Stanley Tarr.
Perhaps you have a special project in mind. We’d love to hear about it! Our special projects team is currently working on a full-length book on issues affecting secured creditors, which is nearing completion. The special projects team, in conjunction with the Health Care Committee, will also be presenting a webinar on Feb. 3, 2016, on the restructuring of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). The webinar will feature Tom Califano (DLA Piper; New York), Chad Shandler (CohnReznick; New York) and Boris Mankovetskiy (Sill Cummis & Gross; Newark, N.J.). If you have any ideas or suggestions for a new project, or if you would like to organize a project that will benefit the committee’s members, please contact Special Projects/Task Force Leader Michelle Masoner (Bryan Cave; Kansas City, Mo.).
The leadership of the Secured Credit Committee is here to serve you, and we thank you for taking part in committee activities and projects this year. We look forward to more great projects and developments in 2016.
