This has been another productive year for the ABI Young and New Members Committee. At the Annual Spring Meeting, we were thrilled to pair with the Bankruptcy Taxation and Business Reorganization Committees to present a session entitled, “Tax-Sharing Agreements in Bankruptcy that Have Been the Subject of Recent Appeals Courts Decisions.” We offered mimosas and Bloody Marys to those who attended the panel despite the early Saturday morning time slot, and they were a big hit!
In June 2015, we presented two webinars. First, early in the month, we hosted a short webinar presented by the CEO of ModioLegal, a company that offers the content of the ABI Journal in a human-narrated, article-specific audio format that can be accessed on a smartphone. Thereafter, later in the month, we partnered with the Bankruptcy Litigation Committee to present a webinar entitled, “ABI Live: The Practical Impact of Preference Actions,” which explored the rationale behind certain recommendations of the ABI Commission relating to preference issues.
Our panel presentation at the Winter Leadership Conference was made in conjunction with the Unsecured Trade Creditors Committee and was entitled, “A Road to Recovery: How to Navigate the Twists and Turns of Insider Litigation,” which will address the current climate in pursuing insider causes of action.
In spring 2016, we will be pairing with the Technology and Intellectual Property Committee at the Annual Spring Meeting for an informative panel discussion concerning social media and how, when and why one should use it in his or her practice.
With the contributions of our committee members, we published 13 original articles in 2015. We focused on including articles that addressed “bankruptcy basics” and “practice pointers for practitioners.” These articles were helpful to, and well received by, our young and new members, and we thank everyone who submitted articles. We are also always looking for more articles that provide up-to-date analysis of the emerging hot topics in the restructuring world and welcome your submissions.
Over the course of the coming year, we will continue to identify ways for our committee members to get involved. Newsletter articles are a great way to become involved, so please contact our newsletter editor, Daniel White, with your ideas and submissions. We also invite you to share with us any other questions or thoughts that you may have regarding the Young and New Members Committee or ABI in general.
We look forward to meeting and working with more of you in the future.
