ABI TO
SPONSOR BANKRUPTCY LAW
TO ATTEND JUDICIAL
INSTITUTE

Alexandria, Va. —The American Bankruptcy Institute
(ABI) will be sponsoring 20 bankruptcy law clerks from around the
country to take part in the William Matthew Byrne, Jr., Judicial
Clerkship Institute program to be held at the Pepperdine University
School of Law from March 13 - 15, 2008. As the Judicial Clerkship
Institute aims to improve the effectiveness and
efficiency of judicial clerks, ABI has designed a breakout track
specifically for bankruptcy law clerks to help meet the needs of the
bankruptcy court. Law students or graduates who have been selected for a
clerkship with a federal, district, bankruptcy or appellate court judge,
are eligible to attend the Judicial Clerkship Institute.

several of the most highly respected judges in the

new clerks most need to learn,” said Kenneth W. Starr, the Dean of
the Pepperdine School of Law.
The judicial faculty that will
be participating in the Judicial Clerkship Institute Program includes
esteemed members of the U.S. District, Appeals and Bankruptcy Courts.
The Bankruptcy Judges participating on the faculty include Thomas B.
Bennett (N.D. Ala.), Margaret Mahoney (S.D. Ala.), Steven
Rhodes (E.D. Mich.), Barry Russell (C.D. Calif.) and ABI
Chairman Wesley W. Steen (S.D. Texas). Faculty from the U.S.
District Court include Judges Carol Bagley Amon (
w:st='on'>
w:st='on'>N.Y.
Ala.), Charles R. Breyer (N.D. Calif.) and Paul Friedman
(D. D.C.). U.S. Appeals Court Judges taking part include Diarmund F.
O’Scannlain (Ninth Circuit), Pamela Ann Rymer (Ninth
Circuit) and Sonia Sotomayer (Second Circuit).
