PROF. DAVID GRAY CARLSON WINS ABI'S INAUGURAL
JUDGE WES STEEN LAW REVIEW WRITING PRIZE

March 14, 2011 Alexandria, Va. — Prof.
David Gray Carlson of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of

Law (New York) won the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI)
Inaugural Judge Wes Steen ABI Law Review Writing Prize for his lead
article, 'The Role of Valuation in Federal Bankruptcy Exemption Process:

The Supreme Court Reads Schedule C,' which appeared in the 2010 Winter
edition of the ABI Law Review. Prof. Carlson was awarded $5,000 for his
work.

The prize’s namesake, Bankruptcy Judge Wesley
Steen
, retired from the bench in January after 17 years of
distinguished service in both the Southern District of Texas and the
Middle District of Louisiana. The only judge to ever serve as ABI
President (2006-07), he was also a member of the ABI Law Review advisory

board. To honor Judge Steen, ABI established an annual ABI Law Review
prize in his name for the best article as selected by the advisory
board.

A member of the Cardozo faculty since 1981, Prof. Carlson is a prolific
scholar, with more than 90 published articles.

The first award of $5,000 to Prof. Carlson will be funded this year by a

donation from the Houston Bar Association Bankruptcy Section, the
Moeller Foltz Inn of Court and the Houston Association of Consumer
Bankruptcy Attorneys. The award will be presented to Prof. Carlson at
ABI’s Annual Spring Meeting on April 2, 2011.
