CONSUMER BANKRUPTCY DEVELOPMENTS, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND ETHICS TAKE
CENTER STAGE AT ABI’s 18th   ANNUAL SOUTHWEST
BANKRUPTCY CONFERENCE

 Alexandria, Va. -- More than 500 are expected to
attend ABI’s 18th Annual Southwest Bankruptcy
Conference, which will be held Sept. 23-25 at the Four Seasons Resort in

Las Vegas. Programming for the conference features timely programming,
including a judges’ roundtable session that includes 12 bankruptcy

judges from the region discuss hot topics in bankruptcy. The conference
allows attendees the opportunity to earn up to 9 CLE credit hours,
including 2.5 hour of ethics.

Program chairs for the
conference are Scott F. Gautier of Pitzman, Weg &
Kimpinsky LLP (Los Angeles) and Jeffrey N. Pomerantz of Pachulski

Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP (Los Angeles). The Judicial Chair is
Bankruptcy Judge Gregg W. Zive (Reno, Nev.) and the sponsorship
chair for the conference is Jeff Nerland of CRG Partners LLC
(Santa Ana, Calif.)

The conference will also
feature ABI’s popular Great Debates series that will include
bankruptcy experts debating the following topics:

  • Mortgage loan servicers lack
    standing to prosecute motions for relief from stay on behalf of unnamed
    beneficiaries.
  • Ad hoc committee members have
    a duty of disclosure regarding the details of the acquisition of their
    claims and interests in the debtor pursuant to Federal Rule of
    Bankruptcy Procedure 2019.
  • A permissible alternative
    treatment of a secured creditor’s claim pursuant to Bankruptcy
    Code § 1129(b)(2)(a) pre-empts a secured creditor’s right to
    credit-bid, pursuant to § 363(k), if an asset sale is proposed as
    part of a debtor’s plan.
