Successor Liability, Supreme Court Roundtable, Escrow Issues in Chapter 13 Cases and More Topics to Be Discussed at ABI's 2017 Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference in Denver

Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) 22nd Annual Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference, set to take place on Jan. 26-27 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver, will examine the lessons learned in both business and consumer bankruptcy cases over the past year and take a look at what trends may lie ahead in 2017. The conference will feature 11 panel sessions, including four as part of a separate workshop geared toward consumer practitioners. Attendees at the Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference have the opportunity to earn 10.5/13 hours of CLE/CPE credit and 1.5 hours of ethics.

 

Also featured will be a special judges’ roundtable program on the morning of Jan. 27 that will feature the bankruptcy judges of the Rocky Mountain Bankruptcy Conference. The 2017 conference will once again include a special program by the Mountain/Desert Network of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC). Prof. Debra Austin of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law will deliver a keynote titled “Optimize Cognitive Fitness: The Connection Between Lawyer Wellbeing and Performance.”

  • How to Win Clients and Build Your Book of Business in Bankruptcy
  • Chapter 11 Plans with Third-Party Releases and Exculpation Provisions
  • Ethics: Discharge Issues and Elements of Proof Under § 523/Consumer Mock Trial of a § 523 Discharge Case
  • Roundtable Discussions on the Supreme Court
  • Alternatives to Bankruptcy: Receiverships, ABCs, Self-Managed Liquidations
  • Recent Updates to the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act
  • Section 363 Sale Issues Involving Successor Liability and the Meaning of “Free and Clear”

 

The Consumer Workshop track will include the following sessions:

 

  • “Means Testing” and Post-Petition Income Sources
  • Documentation Issues/Proper Structuring of Transactions to Strengthen Position in Bankruptcy
  • Escrow Issues and Chapter 13 Cases, Including Home Mortgage Issues and the Conduit System
  • Practice and Procedure: General Practice Tips for Consumer Attorneys
