Okmulgee Federal Bankruptcy Court to Relocate to Muskogee

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma will be relocating to Muskogee this fall, Tulsa World reported. The bankruptcy court will move from the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse in downtown Okmulgee to the Muskogee federal courthouse effective Oct. 1. The bankruptcy court and its supporting functions will be relocated to the Ed Edmondson Federal Courthouse, 101 N. Fifth St. The Muskogee site currently houses U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Bankruptcy court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has been held in the Okmulgee federal building located at 111 W. Fourth St. since 1965 with the exception of court clerk functions and supporting staff, which operated out of a nearby office building prior to 1984. The bankruptcy court has one judge and 14 office staff. Hon. <b>Tom Cornish</b> is the current bankruptcy judge for the Eastern District. There were 1,484 bankruptcy filings in the district in 2017. The first floor of the Okmulgee building will continue to function as a post office.
