Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.), along with 16 co-sponsors, yesterday introduced the "Student Loan Bankruptcy Improvement Act of 2025." The legislation aims to help provide relief from crippling debt to more student loan borrowers. While still holding borrowers accountable, Correa’s legislation would update the standard that has kept millions from achieving a financial fresh start by loosening the criteria for student loan discharge. Steward Health Care Approved to Sue Insiders Under Wind-Down Plan

A bankruptcy judge gave Steward Health Care System the go-ahead to wind down what remains of the company, marking the closure of one of the biggest hospital bankruptcies in decades, WSJ Pro Bankruptcy reported. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge <b>Christopher Lopez</b> approved a liquidation plan for Steward, which sold off, shut down or transferred to new operators all 31 of its hospitals last year. READ MORE

New Orleans Archdiocese Submits Plan to Resolve Bankruptcy with Sex Abuse Survivors
|
|
|
The Archdiocese of New Orleans, as well as a committee representing sex abuse survivors, has officially submitted a joint plan that would help end the diocese's yearslong bankruptcy case, WDSU.com reported. According to the plan, should the settlement be accepted, $130 million in cash would be made immediately available to sex abuse survivors through a trust. An additional $20 million in payments would be made available over the course of four years, and $30 million would be made available from insurance company settlements. READ MORE

Texas law firm Jackson Walker didn’t reach a deal ahead of a court-imposed deadline to resolve a civil case brought by the Justice Department over an ex-partner’s romantic relationship with the nation’s former top bankruptcy judge, WSJ Pro Bankruptcy reported. Jackson Walker and the Justice Department’s Office of the U.S. Trustee concluded mediated talks without resolving litigation around the firm’s involvement in the ethics scandal that forced former bankruptcy judge David R. Red Door Sandwich LLC, a Del Taco franchisee, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday in South Carolina, court documents show, National Restaurant News reported. An equity holder of bankrupt investing platform Linqto alleged that its chapter 11 case was improperly steered to Houston in what amounts to “venue manipulation,” <em>WSJ Pro Bankruptcy</em> reported. U.S. Producer Prices Unchanged with Wholesale Inflation Remaining Under Control
|
|
|
U.S. wholesale inflation cooled last month, despite worries that President Donald Trump’s tariffs would push prices higher for goods before they reach consumers, the Associated Press reported. The Labor Department reported Wednesday that its producer price index was unchanged last month from May after rising 0.3% the previous month. June wholesale prices rose 2.3% from a year earlier, the smallest year-over-year gain since September. Both measures came in below what economists had expected. READ MORE
